Tell Me Something Good
Michanna Tate runs for District 14 and other fabulous news
Let’s end the week on the high notes. I was thrilled to see attorney Michanna Tate is running against Luke Rankin for SC House District 14. Tate has a Masters in Biology AND a JD. Can you imagine how well Laurens and District 14 would be served by someone who understands science and the Constitution? Tell all your Upstate friends and also donate to her campaign here. If you’re local, you can sign up to volunteer for the campaign here.
This week lawmakers, advocates, citizens and providers gathered for Reproductive Health Advocacy Day in Columbia. Justin Bamberg, as always, bringing the heat:
You might already be listening to SC’s politics podcast Frogmore Stew but now you can also read and follow them on Substack. Former SC Senator Katrina Shealy has a spicy one this week.
March is the month for county Democratic Party Conventions, get yours on the calendar. Get in touch with local leaders to make sure we’ve got Democrats running in every race for 2026. In SC, candidates must file by March 30th to run for office. Check out the fabulous toolkit for running on the SCDP page.
Spartanburg County residents seem to have successfully stopped the County Council from welcoming a data center with open arms and egregious tax breaks. Even state legislators got involved to oppose it, although they just really want to pause it so the SC legislature can pass some “regulations.” Maybe they’ll do the right thing by the people and the environment. Or maybe we elect legislators who actually will!
You know by now I’m a big fan of the Women’s Rights and Empowerment Network and all they do to advocate for our rights. Make sure you follow them for weekly legislative updates, and consider a monthly reoccurring donation so they can keep fighting the good fight.
Don’t forget to eat, drink and be merry amidst all the turmoil. We had a very fun date night at Little Secret in West Greenville last week, highly recommend.
What other good news should we have on our radar? Post in the comments!

Brady Quirk-Garvin and I recently published the latest Comeback Report giving an update on where things stand with getting Dems to run in every state house district in 2026! We’re about 50%+ of the way there. More here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DVLwGpRACwJ/?igsh=MWMwbDlkeGdmZmxvdg==
